Cosplay
I attended my first convention, Connecticon, in 2015, and was enamored by all the cosplayers around me. I knew what I wanted to do next year. Since then I've made a new cosplay, sometimes two, every year. When I was younger it was mostly just buying the right pieces, like getting together a waiter outfit for my Decim (Death Parade) cosplay. In more recent years though I've taken on much harder projects, which required me to paint or alter pieces, or sew them from scratch entirely. Most recently in 2025 I cut & styled my own wig!
In the last couple years I've committed to trying to put together higher quality cosplays which I can wear or have as an option every year. I grew out of a lot of my cosplays over time, and some of the craftsman ship on older pieces was poor and so couldn't last more than a convention weekend. This way I can focus on making one flashier cosplay, and have comfortable backups to wear just in case! I'm also focusing more on cosplays that are interactive or have a fun component I can give out to people. My favorite part of conventions is interacting with the people, after all!
I don't know who or what I'm planning to do for 2026 yet!
Current Cosplays
Ace Attorney: Miles Edgeworth
I decided to play through the entire Ace Attorney trilogy in 2023. I still haven't actually finished them, but after playing through the first two games I adored Edgeworth. Miles Edgeworth is one of the prosecutors you play "against" in your cases, although interesting things happen to him later on in the series!
The Ace Attorney series is a rather timeless one, so I thought it'd be a good cosplay to have for many years. It has a lot of interactive potential as it's very recognizeable, and people love yelling "Objection!" at me. I also created some business cards to give away, which said "Miles Edgeworth, Chief LA Prosecutor, 'I never let anyone get off!'"
Secure, Contain, Protect: Dr. Asher Strickland (Original Character)
I was first introduced to the universe of Secure, Contain, Protect, (or SCP for short) when I was in highschool after I clicked on a random link. It took me to this weird but well written wiki page about a church that appeared when drivers saw an apparition on a billboard. The driver would then be compelled to pull over, get out, head to the church, and jump into a pit where they would be digested by a giant worm. I had no idea what I was reading, but it was 4 am and I was enthralled. This turned out to be SCP-2678 one of thousands of wiki articles written from the perspective of researchers testing and containing supernatural beings and objects.
Since this fandom is made up of stories from it's own community, it's very versatile! Anyone can be a scientist with any level of clearance, or a "Class D", or a Mobile Task Force member. Anyone can make up their own SCP, and with thousands of them on the wiki, there is one for everyone. I'm still working on my character, but I go as Dr. Asher Strickland, a computer scientist at Site 15 who specializes in digital anomalies. But if you pay attention closely, there might just be something off about him...
Some of My Best Past Cosplays
Five Night's At Freddy's Security Breach: Daycare Attendant, Sun
FNAF Security Breach was not my first choice, but it was super popular that year and my sister wanted to do a group cosplay. I chose my favorite animatronic from the game, Sun (aka the Daycare Attendant). Despite my lack of enthusiam for the game, this turned out to be one of my best cosplays ever.
I painted the red onto the pants, sewed all the ruffs from fabrics, added the buttons and the ribbons to the shirt, and I freehanded and painted the mask. The mask has a dowel with some sponge hot glued to it, which is how I held it up for poses and photos. I cannot confirm hot much hot glue I might have ingested because of this choice, but I'm alive so it's probably okay. This cosplay has held up really well, and is my go-to for halloween!
Pokemon
My father and I were really big Pokemon Go fans, so once I got my parents into cosplaying, Pokemon was a natural fandom. We did Pokemon for a couple of years. First I did Grusha, my favorite gym leader from Scarlet and Violent, since his design was fairly easy. I was a little scared of taking on the task of cosplaying a pokemon at the time. I added the spikes to the jacket and the black accents, painted and added the fluff to the winter shoes, and made the scarf from scratch. The next year I got over my fear and attempted to cosplay my favorite Pokemon, Frosslass. I built the headpiece using a beanie and foam. I attached the foam to build up the pointed structure, and then covered it in a couple layers of fabric to get it smooth. I also sewed and stuffed the arm wings with hand pockets so I could manipulate them. I learned a lot of lessons about face and body paint with this one as well.
Through the Pokemon cosplays I also learned how to run a photoshoot! One of the most popular photoshoots at Connecticon is the Pokemon photoshoot (so much so that there's multiple of them). The year I went as Grusha, one of the organizers didn't show up. I stepped up and began directing people, calling out Generations and helping the photographer. I learned running a photoshoot isn't all that difficult, so the next year I signed up to run it myself! Since then I've attended other photoshoots where the organizer never showed up, and I always do my best to step up.
